# Marfeel Compass and Data Protection

Compass is a platform for real-time analytics that requires user information to operate. With growing regulation and user concern about how their personal data is being used by companies and platforms, Compass is built to give users ‘privacy by design’ while still being a ‘Plug&Play’ solution for publishers.

To do this Compass is fully-compatible with all IAB TCF2.0 compliant CMPs, out of the box. With a single line of code, publishers can start seeing real-time content analytics, knowing that their user data is fully compliant, secure, and users know exactly how it is being used.

You can learn more about the data Compass collects, how it’s used, and how Compass complies with global data protection regulations in this section.

# What is GDPR and CCPA?

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR (opens new window)) is a regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy in the European Union and the European Economic Area.

CCPA (opens new window) (The California Consumer Privacy Act) is a state statute intended to enhance privacy rights and consumer protection for residents of California, United States.

As well as giving publishers legal guidelines to follow, both regulations are reflective of increased user interest in how their data is stored, used, and shared. As users become more informed and concerned with how their data is used, publishers have to be clear and explicit on how they use this data.

To ensure that Compass and the publishers that use Compass are compliant with all regulations and are using reader data in a sustainable, ethical, and responsible way, Compass operates a ‘privacy by design’ policy.

At the heart of ‘Privacy by Design’ are systems to classify the data that must remain private and security measures for the protection of users’ information, built into every level of the organization.
